Algeria Used Car Demand Report 2026: What 36,501 APXAUTO Buyer Inquiries Show

First-party APXAUTO inquiry data for Algeria in 2026: 36,501 contacts, month-by-month volume, the models buyers named, what they ask before buying, and current stock.

Since January we have been answering Algerian buyers faster than we answer anyone else. Between 1 January and 17 September 2026, 36,501 unique Algerian contacts wrote to APXAUTO — roughly half of every contact recorded in our system over the same period, against a base of 71,862 contacts worldwide.

This report is what those conversations looked like from our side of the desk: which models people named themselves, which months were busiest, and what buyers asked before they asked for a price. It is our own anonymised inquiry record, counted by unique contact, closed on September 17, 2026. It is not Algerian registration data and it is not a forecast for the Algerian market as a whole.

What the dataset does and does not cover

Every figure below comes from the same source: anonymised APXAUTO chat and contact records. One contact counts once, no matter how many messages the buyer sent. Model mentions only count a model when the buyer raised it in a message they started — our own sales messages do not create a mention.

Two consequences follow from that. First, a country where we advertise more will show more contacts — inquiry volume tracks advertising budget and creative as much as it tracks real buying appetite. Second, an inquiry is an expression of interest. It is not a reservation, an order or a delivered unit.

September 2026 through Sep 171,817

The shape of the year is not subtle. January (517 contacts) and February (1,495) were quiet by comparison, then the volume stepped up sharply in March and stayed between roughly 4,978 and 8,685 contacts a month from March through July. July was the busiest month we recorded, with 8,685 unique Algerian contacts — about 16.8 times the January figure.

August then falls to 2,135 and September has 1,817 contacts in seventeen days, which annualises nowhere near July. We will not tell you that August proves Algerian demand cooled. Our own monthly numbers move with advertising spend, campaign structure and which vehicles we were actively promoting, and any month with a smaller budget looks smaller in this table. What we can say is that our published inventory and our promoted models changed between July and August, and the contact count moved at the same time.

The same caution applies in the other direction: March to July was not a sudden national boom, it was the period when our Algeria-facing campaigns and Volkswagen/Audi stock matched what Algerian buyers were searching for.

The models Algerian buyers named themselves

Out of 36,501 Algerian contacts, 5,024 model mentions were recorded across the models below. German group products dominate the list, with one Chinese brand — Geely — sitting inside the top eight.

Model named by the buyerUnique Algerian contacts
Audi A3980

Volkswagen T-Roc734
Audi Q3677
Volkswagen T-Cross324
Volkswagen Polo270
Geely265
MG / MG5228
Volkswagen Tiguan191
Toyota184

Behind the top ten: Volkswagen Tacqua (154), Jetour (127), Toyota Corolla (72), Volkswagen Passat (60).

What stands out is not the order so much as the width of the list. Audi A3 (980 mentions) and Volkswagen Golf (758) are the two models most Algerians wrote to us about, and both are compact cars with a large existing parts and service base in the country. Geely (265) is the highest-placed Chinese brand on the list, and MG (228) follows closely. Behind them the list thins out quickly: Tiguan (191), Toyota (184), Tacqua (154), Jetour (127), then a long tail that runs down through the Corolla (72) and the Passat (60).

What changed between July and September

PeriodMost-named models in that window
July 2026Audi A3 (204) · Audi Q3 (193) · Volkswagen Golf (183) · Volkswagen T-Roc (179)
August 2026Volkswagen Golf (110) · Volkswagen T-Roc (81) · Volkswagen T-Cross (39) · Geely (36)
September 2026 through Sep 17Volkswagen T-Roc (53) · Volkswagen Golf (47) · Geely (18) · Volkswagen T-Cross (15)

July was an Audi month in our inbox: A3 204 mentions, Q3 193, with Golf 183 and T-Roc 179 just behind. In August the mix shifts: Golf leads with 110 mentions and T-Roc follows with 81, while the Audi models drop out of the top rows. September so far is the same shape — T-Roc 53, Golf 47, then Geely and T-Cross.

We can observe that pattern. We cannot prove the cause from this dataset alone, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Audi A3 and Q3 stock was heavily promoted in our July campaigns; in August our promoted mix leaned toward Volkswagen. A reasonable reading is that the promoted models influenced which models came back in the replies. A different reading is that buyers genuinely moved toward Volkswagen. This dataset does not separate the two.

What does look durable across three consecutive windows is the presence of Golf and T-Roc. They appear in the top four in July and August and stay there in the first half of September. That is the closest thing to a trend we are willing to publish from these numbers.

Read together, these five lines describe the order in which a serious Algerian buyer moves. The first message is usually about price or a specific model. Within a few messages the conversation turns to how the vehicle gets to Algeria and what it costs to land it — the same ground our FOB and CIF planning page covers: 7,276 Algerian contacts raised import, port or shipping questions, which is actually more contacts than the 6,244 who used explicit price, FOB, CIF, "prix", "combien" or quotation wording.

After that come documents (export paperwork, 1,314 contacts) and customs or clearance (552). Condition questions — accident history, original paint, mileage, VIN, inspection — are fewer at 454 contacts, but they arrive later in the conversation and usually decide whether a deal closes. In practice we see the same sequence most weeks: a model, then a price, then "how much to Algiers", then paperwork, then photographs of the actual car.

Dealer-side demand: multi-unit requests

858 Algerian contacts carried dealer, resale, wholesale, showroom or trader wording, and 343 asked about more than one unit. Their requests are more specific than retail inquiries. Anonymised examples from this period include a 6-unit Audi A3 and Q3 request quoted CIF Algiers, a mixed 2-unit T-Roc and 2-unit Golf request for 2025 units on FOB terms, a 4-unit T-Roc request, a 4-unit T-Cross request, a 5-unit Polo request, a 4-unit Golf 8.5 request, a first order of 12 units and a recurring requirement of around 20 units per month.

Two things about those requests matter for anyone quoting Algerian business. Volkswagen and Audi appear in most of them, and mixed-model orders are common — a buyer who wants four T-Roc does not necessarily want four identical cars. For those orders we quote per unit on the actual VIN, list which charges sit inside the price, and confirm the destination port before anything is committed. If you are building a dealer order, our dealer wholesale and Algeria export pages describe how we structure it.

The spread between the cheapest and most expensive unit in that list is roughly $15,000 per unit on FOB terms, which is the clearest sign that "a used car from China" is not one product. A Geely Emgrand at $6,500–$7,500 FOB and an Audi Q3 at $21,500–$22,500 FOB both leave the same port, and they serve completely different buyers.

Methodology and limits

Source: APXAUTO anonymized inquiry data. Snapshot identifier first-party-demand-2026-09-17, closed 2026-09-17.

  • Counts use unique contact IDs, not message volume.
  • Model mentions count buyers who named a model in a message they initiated; our outbound messages are excluded.
  • Mentions are deduplicated per contact where a buyer named the same model more than once.
  • Monthly figures use the contact creation month. September 2026 is counted only through September 17.
  • Inquiry volumes are influenced by advertising budget, ad account activity, creative and the vehicle models promoted.
  • A month with fewer inquiries is not evidence of a smaller national market.
  • A model mention is an expression of interest, not a purchase, reservation or delivered unit.

For Algerian import rules, taxes and eligibility, work from the official sources rather than from a supplier page: the Algerian Customs import portal for the applicable procedure and current tariff position. Incoterm definitions used in our quotations follow the ICC Incoterms rules.

What we will watch next

Three things will decide whether this report looks the same in the next update. Whether Golf and T-Roc keep their place as the promoted mix changes; whether the price gap between a compact Volkswagen and an entry Chinese sedan narrows further as CIF rates move; and whether the multi-unit requests keep arriving in the same volume. We will re-run the numbers from the same source and publish them with the same caveats.

If you are sourcing for Algeria now, send us the model, the quantity and the destination port and we will quote the units that actually exist today. Start with our Algeria export page, or message our export team directly.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Algerian car registration statistics?

No. It is APXAUTO's own anonymised inquiry record. Algeria's registrations, imports and customs data come from Algerian authorities, not from a supplier's chat history. Use this report to understand what buyers asked us for, and use official sources for anything that depends on national totals.

Why did the volume drop after July?

Our inquiry count follows our advertising budget, campaigns and promoted models. July was our heaviest Algeria-focused month and August was lighter. A quieter month in this dataset is not evidence that Algerian buying appetite fell.

Which models should a first-time Algerian buyer start with?

Most of the interest we record is in compact cars with parts available locally: Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, T-Roc and T-Cross, with Geely and MG as lower-cost alternatives. The right answer still depends on your resale channel, your budget in USD and the condition standard you are willing to accept.

Can you quote CIF Algiers from this data?

Yes, but not from a table. CIF depends on the unit, the destination port and the sailing. Send the model and quantity and we will quote the specific cars that are available, with the charges inside the price set out in writing.
